Despite Blizzard’s initial decision not to allow flying in World of Warcraft Warlords of Draenor players will finally get what they have been asking for since the launch of the expansion, flying mounts.

The announcement was made through a post on the official forums and according to lead encounter designer for World of Warcraft, Ion Hazzikostas, “Players will remain ground-bound on Draenor until a small follow-up patch (6.2.x), when all players who have earned Draenor Pathfinder on at least one character will unlock the ability to fly in Draenor on all their level 90+ characters”.

In previous expansion packs, all that was needed to get flight was hit the level cap and pay for the training, however, it won’t be so simple in Warlords of Draenor. Instead, you’ll need to unlock a new meta-achievement called Draenor Pathfinder, coming in Patch 6.2. To unlock Draenor Pathfinder, you’ll need to accomplish the following:

  • Explore all regions of Draenor
  • Discover 100 treasures in Draenor
  • Complete all Draenor quest achievements
  • Complete all Draenor bonus objectives
  • Earn Revered with these three Tanaan Jungle reputations: The Saberstalkers, Order of the Awakened, and Hand of the Prophet (Alliance) / Vol’jin’s Headhunters (Horde).

The amount of complaints following an interview with Hazzikostas two weeks ago where he said  that they [Blizzard] had decided against adding flight to Warlords of Draenor in a future patch and even any future expansion might be the reason for this change.

The move also sparks questions if the decision was influenced by to the staggering 3 million subscription loss announced a few months ago.

Players are very used to the feature since it has been part of the game in the past four expansion packs. What’s more, they’ve spent a huge amount of time and money to earn flying mounts.
